January 14, 2017, dogs (and their humans) walk for Save Guana Now.
Minutes before our dog walk to fundraise (and awareness-raise) for Save Guana Now, the last drops of rain were swished from our windshields, and the sun came out for a beautiful hike in Guana preserve.
Apparently all charm school graduates, the dogs were so well behaved, we rarely heard a bark from them.
Everyone's smiling. It was that kind of day.

A pair of pomeranians, a golden doodle with ribbons in her
hair, a beagle mix and an elegant weimaraner (and former show dog) were among the beloved canines who joyfully trekked from the trailhead to the intercoastal on the yellow trail in GTMNERR. Master Naturalist and former ranger Gary Coulliette led the way, keeping pace with the pack while providing interesting historical and botanical information to the humans. For example, we learned to avoid making tea with any leaf that has the word "vomitoria" in its latin name.
We plan to have regular events in Guana involving hikes for dogs and humans alike, kayaking and canoeing, biking, birding and exploring the trails with camera in hand. If you'd like to hike all ten miles of trails in Guana, join our "Guanathalon" in which we'll hike two or three miles per outing. Watch your emails for details.
We're also planning our big fundraiser in the spring: the Save Guana Gala. Join us for dinner under a full moon on Guana Lake overlooking the Outpost - the 99 acres of conservation land that we're striving to protect from development.
